Associate Director for Finance & Grants

Position overview: Pasa is seeking an experienced, organized, and strategic Associate Director for Finance and Grants to join our team. Grants are closely integrated with finance and throughout the organization. The grants team coordinates grant tasks as project managers, with responsibility for grant writing and grant management shared across the Pasa team. The Associate Director for Finance and Grants will be responsible for ensuring that finance and grant obligations and requirements are fulfilled.

An ideal candidate has the skills to ensure the financial integrity and stability of a growing nonprofit and experience with complex grants management.

This position will report to the Finance and Administrative Services Director.

This position entails remote-based work with regular travel, including participation in field-based events, involvement in speaking engagements, and attendance at 2-3 annual in-person staff retreats. All team members are required to attend our yearly Sustainable Agriculture Conference held each February in Lancaster, PA. Residence within Pennsylvania or within a 150-mile radius of Harrisburg is required unless special permission is granted for Philadelphia or Pittsburgh to serve as the primary work location, in which case employees must reside within a one-hour drive from either city. Convenient access to the Harrisburg office for day trips is highly preferred. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Finance & Administrative Services Director has the support they need to effectively meet the needs of the organization
  • Supervise and support the finance and grants team, including the Grants Manager, Grants Finance Manager, and Finance Manager
  • Assist in formulating financial and tax strategies, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Manage accounting and finance functions for which Pasa serves as fiscal sponsor
  • Oversee the organization’s transaction processing systems
  • Work with the Compliance Officer to understand and mitigate key elements of the organization’s risk profile
  • Complete month-end bookkeeping review and make closing journal entries
  • Serve as primary support for Pasa’s auditor relationship, reporting risk issues in conjunction with the Compliance Officer, with guidance from the Finance and Administrative Services Director,
  • Support financial reporting and subawardee financial communication for large grants (e.g. Partnership for Climate-Smart Commodities)
  • Support the Grants Manager and Grants Finance Manager in contributing to continuous improvement in Pasa’s grant writing and grant management processes and systems
  • Support the Finance Manager in maintaining Pasa’s financial systems and processes
  • Work collaboratively with the other leads on the finance and administrative services team
  • Maintain effective and collegial relationships with all members of the team

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working with QuickBooks Online and familiarity with GAAP standards
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major nonprofit or division of a large corporation
  • Practical experience using Excel or Google Sheets for building and maintaining financial models
  • Relevant experience with federal, state, and foundation grants management
  • Comfort with technology and digital record keeping (e.g. Google Workspaces, project management software, form builders, etc.)
  • Passion for Pasa’s mission

Preferred qualifications

  • Quickbooks Online Proadvisor certification
  • Project management experience
  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish

Compensation: This is a full-time position. Annual salary for this position is $75,000. A one-time $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish, after successful completion of their 6-month probationary period.
